I use videos to help me through difficult times – when I have to cook a meal, when I need to make some phone calls, when I’m just at the end of my rope and I don’t want to snap at anyone, or when I have snapped at someone and we all need some calming [...]

I realized this week that if I was going to finish my March To Do List, I had to do it this week! EEEeeeekkkk!
So I’ve been trying to tie up those dangling loose ends – I pulled out the dress for Hypatia that was just waiting to have a zipper and some trim (it took 20 [...]

I just read a good post at Poohsticks called “not enough time”. We can all relate to that, right? There is never enough time to do everything we should do, much less everything we want to do. And it’s way too easy to look at other people and say “well she can get X done, [...]

Not gross mold (my Mom would sometimes try to claim that bread mold was “an experiment”, not just a gross oversight – one of the perks of homeschooling for her.)
No, I have a very alive kitchen right now. Besides our wonderful worm box, with its resident populations of both worms and mites, we now have [...]

For our simple study of Van Gogh, we have three books we’re reading.
This is a very simple boardbook, but it shows many of Van Gogh’s paintings.
Here a young boy befriends Van Gogh. The book tells the story of Van Gogh’s troubled relationship with his neighbors, and his eventual eviction. There are nice reproductions of his [...]

As we continue to study Van Gogh, I set up the paints for the kids yesterday. Carbon started with a lovely (to me) blend of green and blue, which he said was the sky. Then he added a bit of brown, and the result thrilled him.
“Mommy, look! There’s dog poop in the sky!” Then he [...]

It’s Van Gogh’s birthday on Friday, so we’re studying his art this week. This coloring page was done by the little girl I watch – she loves pink. But she did put some brown on the buildings and green on the tree, so she was stretching her normal color palate. I got the coloring page [...]

I’ve been very busy planning my sister J.’s summer school assignments, but I’ve finally finished it all up. To make it easier for her, I’ve created a planner that has the calendar months, checklists, and syllabi all together. As soon as I get some ink for my printer, I can print it out and bind [...]

It’s Friday, and I’ve been out of the house all day! By a lovely coincidence, both of my daycare families were off on little trips today, and I got a day off. It was/still is lovely:
I sort of slept in (when Hypatia woke up at 6 I did the terribly lazy thing of setting her [...]

Yesterday we received our mini-swap box! Big thanks to MindGames! Carbon was thrilled, and the box is still the number one entertainment today. There were toys, stickers, puzzles, and many books. And they sent me some CD’s of African Music that are just perfect for our current African Study!
I had a lot of fun doing [...]
