Books to read before going to the beach

Beachcombing by Jim Arnosky. The illustrations are like a glimpse into Arnosky’s nature journal, and the text gives some nice introductory information about the sort of things you could find on a beach.
Clam-I-Am: All About the Beach by Tish Rabe, illustrated by Aristides Ruiz. Part of the Cat in the Hat Learning Library, this book is not on par with Dr. Seuss in the rhyming department. However, it is a fun little introduction to what you might find on a beach, and a good illustration of how things live by tunneling under the sand.
Sandcastles Made Simple by Lucinda Wierenga. If you are working with little kids, these might be more inspiration than instruction, but this book is full of cool sand projects and some great tips on how to create them.
How Big is the Ocean? First Questions and Answers about the Beach by Time Life Books. Illustrations show children on the shore, exploring, and asking questions about what they see. The answers are simple, but what I like the most is that my kids get the idea of looking and wondering and asking those types of questions.
Enjoy your summer! I hope your beach days are warmer than ours have been so far:
