Middle School

I have my sister here for the week, and most of next week too. I am one of her “teachers”, but usually my teaching responsibilities are to sift through possible resources, make the assignments, and give feedback on writing projects. Mom lives about two hours away, so my help is provided over the internet, phone, and through the mail.
Now I get to see what it’s like to have a real, live middle schooler sitting at my dining room table. Ah, the IPod in the ears - the Johnny Depp notebooks - the “real” school work. It’s actually a lot of fun, even though it’s a juggling act for me to have such wide age ranges here at the moment. Yesterday we spent time together as she designed an experiment and wrote out her procedure. Today, she’ll make the data tables and later we’ll start the experiment (”The factors that effect muscle fatigue”, and I’m a subject - lots of bicep curls in my immediate future).
It’s also nice to have someone in the house that isn’t a small child. I wonder how my Mom is handling the break?

I honestly think middle school is the most fun to teach of all! High school has too many required classes (for either the state or college entrance) amd elementary seemed to jump around too much with their limited attention level. But middle school is when you can learn all sorts of interesting things and really get into exploring ideas. Enjoy!!!
