children and fuel efficiency

I overheard a discussion yesterday that I would never have had when I was 5 years old.

Carbon and Daycare Boy were pretending to have rocket ships and they were going to Jupiter in them.

Daycare Boy: “My rocket ship is faster than yours, so I’ll get there first.”

Carbon: “Faster isn’t better.  My rocket ship takes one drop of gas and goes forever, so it’s better for the environment.”

Daycare Boy: “No, my rocket ship has better gas mileage.”

Carbon: “What is its gas mileage?”

Daycare Boy: “It takes one million drops and it goes one million miles.”

Carbon: “Mine only takes one drop and goes forever.  Forever is more than a million.”

It degenerated into a “mines better” “No, mine’s better” argument after that, and I had to step in and remind them that in their imaginations they can make both rockets be great.  But I got a kick out of their gas mileage concerns!

Whoa! Isn’t that interesting….adult concerns are becoming kid concerns. I think that’s a good thing in this case!

This is funny… and good to hear.

That is awesome! What smart little guys.
