Kids shorts sewing

It’s shorts season, and I decided yesterday I would try a simple project from The Creative Family, the fabulous book by blogger Amanda of SouleMama.

The project is super simple. I’ve bought one pair of shorts for Hypatia this summer, so I took them out to use as a pattern.

Then I had two shirts to recycle. They were both shirts I bought at the thrift store and wore for over a year, and they were all stretched out and unattractive on me at this point because they were so worn out. I did not feel bad about cutting them up! I have the shorts backwards in this picture though (which I didn’t figure out until I sat down to sew them up). The crotch should be on the side seam of the shirt, to save you a step when you sew them up. Then you cut another out from the other side of the shirt.

Then it’s simple to stitch them up, and turn the top down to make a casing for your elastic. The directions in the book are very simple to follow, or if you’ve made shorts before you can just figure it out at your machine.

They are simple, but very functional in her wardrobe. Then Carbon was jealous, so I had to make him a quick pair of shorts also. I used a pattern I’ve used before, and the adorable robot fabric I bought from reprodepot.

Adorable!
I can not sew…I keep thinking I can, but
I can not.

How simple (pretty easy, I am guessing) and functional and cute! Not to mention a great way to recyle old Ts.

I’m so mad jealous of your skill! I know shorts are supposed to be like the easiest thing to sew in the world. I sewed a few pairs once, and they came out a little crooked, but I was so proud. You are such a pro.
