Weekly Book Post

My blogging is in flux right now, as I adjust to the new schedule and job. But I do still read to my kids, I promise, even if I’m falling behind on posting about books!
And I forgot to take a picture of them this week before I took them back to the library, also. The wrinkles will smooth out soon, I’m sure. I’ll just keep telling myself that.
So here’s what we have enjoyed recently.
Why I Will Never Ever Ever Ever Have Enough Time To Read This Book is funny and really spoke to me in my current life situation. There’s just so much stuff to do that you never get anything done.
Kidogo is small, for an elephant, and he’s unhappy to need help all the time. He doesn’t notice all the other small animals out there until he finally notices some ants, and gets to help them. Hypatia was really worried though, that he had wandered off and lost his mommy, and so she lost the whole point of the book by looking for his mom in all the illustrations and just repeating “oh no! where’s his mommy?” as I was trying to read. So there were two issues going on in the book, depending on the readers perspective, I guess.
Fancy Nancy seems to be everywhere, and we had not read it, so we picked it up. Hypatia loved it, and we’ve read it over and over to her. She likes the illustrations of Nancy’s fancy outfits, and points out all the things she’s wearing. We’ll have to read the other Fancy Nancy books also.
Timothy and the Strong Pajamas is adorable. Timothy, a mouse, has some favorite pajamas that just keep wearing out. His mother patches them up with a super-strong patch, which turns out makes Timothy super strong also! As a mom who patches many items of clothing for my super-hero son, I got a kick out of this story. And the kids really liked it too.
What I didn’t like:
The Adventures of Isabel by Ogden Nash was a book I really wanted to like. I normally enjoy his poetry, but this book disappointed me. The rhymes weren’t great, the story was weird and the heroine did things that seemed arbitrary and mean.
Roar of a Snore also suffered from disappointingly bad rhymes. And then, spoiler alert, it turns out that a little kitten is the source of the roar - it just doesn’t really make sense and the end is anticlimactic.
