It’s coming – that time of year when things slow down at work and the weather is nice and “the livin’ is easy” as the song goes. Summer time.
I’m planning on taking some of my vacation time in small chunks by just readjusting my work schedule so that I have another day off every week. [...]

Yesterday I got the L.L. Bean and Lands End catalogs in the mail, and I got to thinking about new clothes (see yesterday’s post). I also was inspired to go through my closet and dresser and fill a bag for Goodwill with the clothing that I don’t wear.
As I pulled stuff out, and made piles [...]

Confession: I have not done any school work with the kids since Monday.
It’s just falling off the bottom of the TO DO list, as life feels too busy and crazy. So, to make it a higher priority (which it really should be!), I’m setting some assignments down for next week. Our previous plan was [...]

I don’t do resolutions anymore, but I am completely addicted to Challenges. 2007 was the year of cookies, because I decided to do a 1000 Cookies Challenge. 2008 has been a year of intense reading, with the 8×8 Reading Challenge. I have two totally different challenges in mind for 2009:
1. The 365 Miles Challenge. I [...]

Here comes summer! We are in a couple transitions at the moment, which is complicating our ability to just stick to a routine. But I really want to get back to routine after the last three weeks of illness and recuperation have thrown off all our plans.
So here’s what I’ll try to do this month.
Kindergarten
Carbon’s [...]

I’m a bit late with this, but I still need to have a plan for the month.
Kindergarten
Carbon and I are not doing history in order, so we’re just jumping right into something he’s interested in: castles and knights. I’ve got several books from the library, and we plan to make a large cardboard castle. We’re reading [...]

Carbon turns 5 next month, and we are “officially” starting Kindergarten after his birthday. As year-round schoolers, we don’t see a need to wait until Fall.
So I get to make plans! The schedule is going to be a short “pull out” for Carbon 2 days a week, and then gradually moving up to 4 days [...]

Tomorrow is April Fools! This is a completely serious plan, however.
Carbon’s School
Carbon is doing really well with his numbers all of a sudden, so I need to order him the next workbook for math (1-100 comes next, then it’s the beginning of addition). I also have some new books out from the library of math activities, [...]

There is a feel of Spring here, with bulbs coming up and warm sweater weather calling us out for bike rides. Yay!
And now I need to look at my plans for this month.
Preschool
I have some new science and math books from the library, and I’m going to restock our math and science box with more [...]
